It is a known fact that there are some people out there that just don’t test well, no matter how much preparation they do. At, we can give you access to practice CPS and NFST tests to better prepare you for the exam that is ahead, but it may not help you become a better test taker. So we would like to give you some helpful tips to take with you to the test to help you pass the exam with flying colors.

Read each question carefully

This may seem a little obvious but many people will read the question without fully understanding what it’s asking. It is also a good idea to read each answer choice before selecting one because there may be a better answer waiting. The people who write the test will word things in a way that may make you question your response on purpose to see if you are paying attention.

Answer the ones you know for sure

On the first pass, answer the questions that you are completely sure of. There is never any harm in skipping over questions that you are unsure of to come back to later. This way you have a better gauge how much time you have left to finish.

Mark the answer immediately

Many people will circle the answer in the booklet and not on the answer sheet. This could be detrimental to you in the long run. The chances that you are off by one will increase. Check, multiple times, whether you are filling in the right answer.

Don’t be afraid to change your answer

Some test takers believe that their first instinct on a test is always right. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. If you go on with the test and realize that the first answer isn’t right, then feel free to change it.  But if you change an answer, make sure that you erase the other as best as you can so that you don’t get a false read.

There are many more tips that we would like to share with you to help you be a better test taker, but those will have to wait until our next blog. Until then, keep studying with your CPS or NFST firefighter test from
